Information for potential recruits
Pocklington RUFC has a long record of being a club where players enjoy both competitive rugby and a strong social tradition. And we are pleased to welcome new players of all abilities from anywhere in the world.
The club plays in Yorkshire Division 2 of the RFU leagues which is level 8 of the game in England (Premiership One clubs play at level 1, Premiership Two is level 2, and so on - so seven promotions would see Pocklington playing with the Leicester's and Wasps' of the game!).
The club facilities include clubhouse, four pitches on two sites one with training lights (training sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7.00 pm.), a multi-gym and club physio. Pocklington currently fields four teams every Saturday afternoon, and has a thriving junior section (from Under 7 through to Under 18 age groups) which plays on Sunday morning. The junior section is one of the best in Yorkshire, and six of the club's youngsters have gone on to gain junior international caps in recent years.
Pocklington's 1st XV has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, winning four league championships in the past decade, plus lifting the Yorkshire Shield in 2000 and being voted Rugby World Magazine's 'Team of the Year' for the whole of Britain.
Pocklington has welcomed players and touring teams from across the world in the past couple of decades. We have hosted clubs from Canada, USA, Denmark and Argentina, while players have turned out for Pocklington from America, New Zealand, Australia, France, South Africa, Zimbabwe and the West Indies. In the opposite direction Pocklington players have had spells with clubs in Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, East Africa, France, Finland, Bermuda and South Africa.
Pocklington is a small market town 12 miles south east of York, with good transport links to the rest of the country, further information about Pocklington itself can be accessed through the town's own website, www.pocklington.gov.uk. Pocklington RUFC's players come from the immediate area, and from places a little further afield such as York, Hull and Beverley.
For anyone considering a working holiday, finding a job for a few months should not be a problem, and the club can help put people in touch with local employers who are looking for labour. Similarly, for anyone thinking of relocating into the area, it has low unemployment and a diversity of job opportunities.
Everyone who turns up at the club looking for a game will be made welcome, alternatively we will be happy to discuss things further with you if you contact us through the website, or write to us at the club's headquarters at Percy Road, Pocklington, East Yorkshire, England. YO42 2QB.
