PRUFC Silent Auction

A marriage ceremony, two rugby players, a pig, food and drink, plants and maps are all amongst more than 50 prizes and promises when Pocklington RUFC President, Tim Slater, holds a public silent auction in aid of the clubs Pocklington Rugby Forward appeal on Sunday (14 February).

The auction is in the clubhouse from 1.30 to 5.00 pm, and will feature a host of valuable gifts, services and promises, with Slater hoping that more will be forthcoming before the event gets underway. The format is that people can write down a bid on any item during the afternoon, with the top offer when the final whistle goes at 5.00 pm taking it home.

Slater explained: This is a great chance to raise funds for the clubs development appeal, and buy some valuable and unusual gifts and services in the process. I have had some marvelous things donated, but if anyone still has an unwanted Christmas present or is looking to make room in the loft, or has skills or businesses, they can add something to the list right up to the start. Items can be big or small, everything is welcome.

Items already donated include restaurant and dinner party meal vouchers, wines and cakes, a fully butchered pig, plants, old maps, prints and books, sportswear and rugby memorabilia. Among the promises up for sale are a marriage ceremony at All Saints Church conducted by Pocklington curate and club vice-president Rev. Gail Dally, the use of 1st XV players Ben Rees and Mark Stringer as slaves for the day, swimming lessons and a days electrical maintenance work provided by club captain Mick Beard.

Entry to the event is free and is open to both club members and the general public. There will be alternative entertainment in the clubhouse as Englands international in Italy will be on TV at 2.30 pm, and food will also be on sale during the afternoon.

Donations of additional auction items can be collected, and the president will be at Percy Road to accept goods on Saturday afternoon. Alternatively anyone wanting more details, or willing to make a promise, can contact Tim Slater on 01757 638618, address 27 Wressle, near Selby, North Yorkshire, YO8 6ET, email: s.slater657@btinternet.com.

Any monies raised will go to the Pocklington Rugby Forward appeal which is raising funds to rebuild the clubs changing rooms in the summer.
