Sportsmans Lunch

Stars from across the sporting spectrum are backing Pocklington RUFCs popular Sportsmans Lunch on Sunday.

The event at Kilnwick Percy's KP Club is one of the highlights of the year, and top billing this year goes to main speaker, Geoff Miller, who masterminded England cricket's ashes triumph in the summer as chairman of selectors. Miller played 34 Test matches and a host of one day internationals for England and also had a spell as England's vice-captain. But he freely proclaims that he is a far better after dinner speaker than he ever was a cricketer, so an entertaining afternoon is in prospect.

There is also an auction of sporting memorabilia at the end of the day, with former BBC rugby league commentator, Malcolm Lord, in charge as MC and auctioneer. And amongst the donations are rugby shirts signed by both the Engalnd and Ireland international teams, and another signed by the Leeds Rhinos rugby league players, plus other valuable items including tickets to see Hull City in the Premiership.
