York RI 14 - 12 Pocklington
In an even game
at York, Pocklington Panthers once again battled their way into a good position
only to go down to a late score.
With the York RI club only having one game
they had plenty of resources to pick from and they were the first to attack. But
the Panthers held firm and should have opened the scoring only to miss a sitter
of a penalty midway through the first half.
RI eventually broke the deadlock
with a converted try but the Panthers stormed back after the break with Brooke
Waudby getting through a mountain of work in the back row and Rob Parsons and
Jason Beevers running strongly in the threequarters.
From a scrum against the
head the Panthers got the ball smartly wide for elusive wing Sean Dann to race
over, and they then took the lead when scrum half Chris Pottage burrowed under
the posts from close range, Ed Rook converting.
The Panthers looked set for
victory but inside the final five minutes they failed to find touch and RI ran
the ball back with a mixture of inter-passing and juggling to score and add the
winning conversion.
