Pocklington 29 - 8 Rowntree
The Panthers
had two much firepower in the backs for their Rowntree visitors and ran in five
good tries to open their season with a comfortable win.
Having been let down
the previous Saturday by Scarborough, then having their scheduled opponents, Leconfield,
call off in midweek, the Panthers were grateful to pick up a game with Rowntrees
late in the day.
And the Panthers were quickly into their stride to be in the
driving seat at 17-0 up at half-time thanks to tries from scrum-half Graham Pickering,
centre Brad Bold and full-back Tim Drew.
Rowntree reduced the deficit with
a try and penalty, but the Panthers finished the stronger and pulled away with
further tries from debutant centre Kenny Embleton and winger Mark Stringer.
