Pocklington 15 - 8 Roundhegians
The Panthers
got back to winning ways with a sound victory at home to Roundhegians.
It was
a keenly contested game with the Panthers having to do plenty of defending to
hold their advantage after scoring a couple of opportunist first half tries.
Scrum
half Chris Pottage sent them on their way to victory on the quarter hour with
a cheeky score, darting under the posts from a quick tap penalty while Roundhegians
were still complaining about being penalised, Ed Rook converting.
And lock
Phil Drew added a second when fullback Tim Drew ran back a Roundhegians kick and
found his brother lurking menacingly on the wing to gallop home from 35 yards.
But
the Panthers could never relax as Roundhegians hit back to make it 12-8 at the
break, and they needed some determined tackling to keep the visitors at bay after
the interval.
Fullback Drew distinguished himself with a couple of try saving
stops, and while the rest of the backs saw little of the ball they also played
their full part with strong defence. The Panthers also had their moments in attack
with centre Jack Holbrough making a couple of nice breaks in midfield and forwards
Steve Barton and Marcus Britland making some powerful charges up the middle, but
the only second half score came when Rook added a penalty to seal victory.
