Pocklington 21 - 12 York RI
The Panthers shook off a couple of first half lapses to come from behind and win at home to York RI.
The Panthers started well enough and duly took the lead with a show and go try from stand off Joe Holbrough which he also converted. But towards the end of the first half sloppy tackling saw the Panthers twice let RI through for long range tries to take the visitors into the interval with a 12-7 lead.
The Panthers regained the initiative in the second period with back rows Dan Pickard and Brook Waudby ruling the breakdown and centre Andy Rollinson prompting well in midfield. A splendid team score then got the Panthers back in front. Several phases of flowing rugby took play back and forth across the pitch to stretch the cover, with good off-loads in the backs taking them to within sight of the RI line where scrum half Jonjo Sanderson darted over in the corner, Holbrough adding a soaring conversion.
The Panthers remained in the driving seat and they
sealed victory with a third converted try when the pack smashed their way forward
up the right flank before the backs took over and centre Martin Scott snapped
up a pass and took three defenders over the line for the touchdown, Holbrough
once more adding the extras.
