Pocklington 20 - 5 Selby
The Panthers had another good win at Percy Road as they avenged a defeat earlier in the season at Selby.
The Panthers looked the livelier side in the opening quarter and took the lead with a pushover try converted by Joe Holbrough. But Selby then took the initiative to spend the rest of the first half on the attack and the Panthers had to produce some strong cover to keep their line intact. Centre Martin Scott was outstanding in defence including two try saving tackles, but Selby's pressure eventually told with an overlap try to make it 7-5 at the break.
Pocklington took over again in the second half to dominate through their pack, with back row Scott Littlefair driving them forward. But they had to wait until the start of the final quarter to turn their pressure into points when their young backs grabbed an opportunist score. Centre Jack Holbrough executed a perfect tackle and steal then off-loaded to his brother Joe who sent wing Ryan Moody sprinting to the corner.
And the Panthers sealed victory with five minutes to go thanks to a solo score from Jack Holbrough who again dispossessed his opposite number in the tackle and danced through the cover on a 40 yard run to the line.
This was a good team display
from the Panthers with their mix of youth and experience standing them in good
stead, and a couple of former first teamers working their way back from injury.
But the most pleasing feature was the performances of their young players, with
three more teenagers - Moody, Ben Hesmondhalgh and Shaun Dann - making impressive
Panthers' debuts.
