Leconfield 10 - 18 Pocklington
Panthers
arrived with strong squad, and started well, camping in Leconfield's half for
the first quarter before a well executed set and drive off a lineout put Panthers'
debutant, George Fell, over the line. They spent remainder of the half in opposition
territory, creating a few decent chances, but were unable to finish, and Leconfield
turned the table with a breakaway try to make it 5-5 at the break.
The second
half again saw the Panthers camped in Leconfield territory as they excelled in
ruck and maul situations, stripping opposition of ball countless times. But a
lack of patience saw numerous mistakes and let Leconfield back into possession.
The Panthers finally settled, using the accurate kicking boots of both Henry Mitchell
and Ed Rook to take their team forward and put pressure on the hosts, Mitchell
capitalizing by taking a try through an intercepted pass close to DST's line.
Unfortunately, this was cancelled out by the army team playing exactly the same
card at the opposite end of the field just ten minutes later.
Good pressure
and a more patient build up saw Mitchell kick a penalty, and soon after another
debutant, Richard Morley, was put over in the corner to seal victory.
Whilst
decidedly disjointed in places, the Panthers can take a lot of positives out of
this game whilst still maintaining their 100% record.
