It's been enlightening reading the comments from the past week. I think the most informed of those was from Pat, apart from Dave’s nice comments about me. Pat and I counted 17 players that we had coached on the pitch in the Boxing Day match, spread over the club and OB’s teams - not a bad showing from junior player development. The aim in the juniors is to develop players so that they can achieve whatever their skills and attitude will allow them. As a club we need superstars, who end up coming on as a replacement for Joe Worsley against Leeds this afternoon, and we need regular club players who are happy to turn out for the 2nds week in week out and get the occasional game in the 1sts if called on. They play for fun and the friendships that they make in the club. We hope that the cycle that Dan mentioned will be evened out as we get a bigger playing base in the juniors but there will always be the same pressures as players have exams, jobs, Uni and not to mention girlfriends. I think we are in better shape than we have been for years as we have sustained a colts team, which I was unable to do 4 years ago, but Nigel Dave and Pat have and I hope Phil and Chris carry on this year. So provided the players are committed to improving their skills and the selectors use their knowledge and sense to decide when a player is physically ready for senior rugby we should be able to integrate them into the 2nds or Meros for experience and then into the 1st team.
PS. I heard a rumour that Nick got player of the year – is that true? No one has been in touch with him, which frankly would have been nice! Unfortunately my mother’s 80th birthday coincided with the dinner, so for once in our lives family came before PRUFC!
PPS. Is this longer than Pat's?

It's just not fair to say a word against those who run our club. I just read the following comment: "unless you are training and talking to the right people you just dont feel right."
I don't remember Tim Nixon doing much talking to the right people, he let his rugby do the talking. The same goes for Chris Pottage, Steve Wilcock, Sam Rees, or our player of the year Nick Bennett, Tom Stokes, the Holborough brothers, Durkin and anyone else.
Stop complaining, get training, score some tries or make some big tackles and you'll get noticed.

I apologise if I didn't draft my comment in word first, spell check it and then cut and paste it onto the guestbook. I will spend much more time in the future on my input. I can only hope it is not too late to redeem myself in the eyes of those more educated members of the club.
It just isn't right that I bring down the tone of such a literary masterpiece as an East Yorkshire rugby guestbook.

i reckon the renewed interest is due to people realising they are going to miss the banter from the club over the break. in order to avoid the onset of such pining for banter, and to coincide with the ridiculously good weather, i propose a game of STAKEBALL to commence within a 3 week period of...............now. applications on a postcard.

Your spelling and grammer isn't exactly faultless. I seem to recall a saying about people in glass houses and stones...
Why is it that this guestbook has seen more action now that the season is over than it ever did during the season past? I support the renewed interest. Long may it last.

Campagn for better English Language (9 May 2008)
After the last few excellent additions to this site I wonder why some people ever bothered with School?
The standard of English teaching, or more probably learning, is of serious concern. eg. "I did not write the below comment". A bit back to front maybe or do I mean "front to back". Then the next contributor surpasses even that with, "I myself am i colt". Whats he taking?
How about out of season basic literacy held at the club every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7.00pm. I think that would be a good money spinner with a large take up.

Whilst I am a big fan of Harry and all his work I did not write the below comment. I have only ever written on this guestbook perhaps 5 times in about 5 years and I would say 4 of those occasions have been to distance myself from comments made by imposters on my behalf. None of it has ever been malicious so I don't really mind but it is strange that whoever Harry's no. 1 fan is cannot just come forward and say it.

Harry (8 May 2008)
Wow! Just logged on after a while - there seems to be a lively debate going on!!!
As one of the first "youngsters" to be brought through in the post Pearce era (I think Tim Bolton, and myself had our debut in the same season 2000/01) I have to say that we've always played young lads, sometimes outrageously young.
It isn't a new phenomenon - What about Guy Hope? What about Huw Rees and Ben Connolly? Steve Wilcock? JP Kelly? My bro Chas? Henry? Matt Webs? These lads were pretty young when they made their debuts at 1st XV level.
I also heard Benny Taylor first side-stepped himself to glory at Pock when he was still a schoolboy! Apparently he ran 10.8 for the 100m as well...
As for going to the right school, which school would that be? Market Weighton or Howden (Edward Bean, Ralf, Wilson twins)? Woldgate (Perry Hardy, Guy Hope, Steve Wilcock, Ben Connolly, 3 Allens, Matt Davies, Nick Bennett, Ben Rees, or any number of current colts to name but a few) or Pock school? who naturally provide a great number of players due to the fact that its the No1 sport at the school!
In every team you need a blend of youth and experience, Paul Rhodes is living proof of this; he has had 30 years experience of winning matches.
I would say that in my experience, there is nothing mysterious, magical or underhand going on in terms of selection. We put out a 1st XV every week that is deemed to have the best chance of victory. Nobody cares about how old you are, or which school you went to, they care about winning matches.
And that's why we all love Pock!!!
I wish I was there...

passmeadikshunery@pock
GK (8 May 2008)
Well said, Pat.
I'm , as usual, not sure what it is that would satisfy some people but I do have some observations.
Firstly, I reckon that Pocklington is a club that has, in recent years, been prepared to pick young players long before others would have. At times, I have thought that some have been picked too young but that is probably a consequence of getting old!! The policy, however, has been proved to be a success. It helps improve competition for places and nobody's place is secure based on past glories. Ed and Tim deserve enormous credit for this.
Secondly, players need to realise the main fact about selection. If you are good enough you will get picked. You will get better by working hard at your game. This will improve your skills. However, rugby is very much a team game, so you need to go training so that you can fit into that team. A successful team usually exceeds the sum of its parts. It's no good being the most gifted individual if you don't know the moves.
Lawrence Dallaliglo recently said that the best thing about rugby was the feeling of winning with your mates.
Work hard, train hard and get better. Your team mates will respect you and your face will then fit, irrespective of background, school, age or position. The satisfaction to be gained will stay with you long after you have finished playing, as will the friendships and camaraderie.

Pat and Dave rock, thanks for everything youve done for us over the years.
Ed, Phil and TC always keep us "youngsters" in the loop.
Ive never felt "unwelcome" by ANY of the senior players.
I love playing at Pock and will continue doing so next year when at Uni.
For whatever team im selected in, which i wont bitch or moan about. Im young, and i need to learn my trade.
This years colts are playboys, and ive loved playing for them on a Sunday, after playing on a Saturday.
Finally, after my structurally incorrect little rant, i think i speak on behalf of all this years colts, WE LOVE PLAYING AT POCK.

pat (8 May 2008)
I would like to thank the Club hierarchy for allowing us all to have this forum to air our views and for only occasionally moderating/censoring it. I do not know of any other club, certainly locally, that provides such a facility. Everybody’s view is valid and deserves a place to be made visible - first hand - to all of us.
I have to believe that all this lively banter is the product of people who care about their club and their place in it as, opposed to teams (or team mates) genuinely falling out with each other. The real test of this is: would you prefer to play/watch/support Pock U13’s/Colts/Mero’s/ Pilgrims/2nds/1st or Goole/Driff/Malton?
Anyhoo, after the thick end of ten years of riding shotgun to Brian Bennett, Nigel Britland and Dave Nash as assistant coach (easiest job in the world thanks the aforementioned, the parents and the kids) I’ve decided to call it a day and reclaim my Sundays. But before I toddle off I feel like I am missing out on a lively debate and that’s not on……. :)
It is not my intention to be confrontational or controversial but more factual (perhaps with a bit of anecdote), so if I am about to offend you please accept my apologies in advance.
If you have just thought “here we go again, not another one†then ALT TAB back to Youtube because a couple of Japanese kids are about to mime to The Power of Love in a small bedroom with fuzzy wallpaper.
I feel I am in a good position to contribute as I have had the incredibly good fortune to not just coach our ‘senior’ juniors but actually play alongside them as they have made the transition through to senior rugby. I have made a list of all the lads I can remember actually playing alongside in senior games since I came out of retirement 4 years ago. If I have missed anyone out I am really sorry but the old grey matter isn’t what it used to be. In no particular order:
Drew, Bennett, Davies, Pickering, Thelman, Holbrough, Nichols, Iverson, Bradley, Henderson, Rees, Chandler, Drew, Morton, Thelman, Bolam, Barrett, Readman, Walker, Gray, Sheperd, Hodgson, Strangeway, Pickard, Cassam, Wright, Stringer, Holbrough, Simpson, Aikman, Craven, Durkin, Nash, Daniels, Beevers, Dann, Kinnel, Mooney, Brittland
39 in total.
Most if not all of the above have come through the minis and juniors section over the past 12 or so years and I am certain that there are a bunch of dedicated coaches guiding hoards of enthusiastic youngsters to follow in their footsteps. (including the U13s – Congrats on Team of the Year)
Up until 2002/2003 our ‘senior’ junior section was virtually non-existent, we did not have a regular Colts team and there had not been one for years (not sure how many - help needed from Brian and Gilly on those facts and figures). As I understand it we currently have a massive opportunity to maintain continuity due to the very strong junior section – and this needs to be recognised, encouraged and protected. Dan W. is correct when he describes this as a cycle and a natural part of the cycle is that some people move on and some people loose interest in playing – so we don’t get to keep all 39. If we are lucky we might keep 2 or 3 a year. This may of course change over the coming years with the cost of going to University going through the roof (if any more lads from Pock go to Leeds Uni(s) we’ll be playing our home games in Headingly :)
In the mean time, treating each other with courtesy and respect (apart from FT of course), maintaining the clubhouse as the most friendly and welcoming in Yorkshire and seeing Pocklington RUFC as one single club from the U7s right through to the Mero’s will encourage everyone who has ever had an association with it to either stay or return.
If you have lost patience with this “who’s better who’s best†thread fair enough, I think someone described it as endless – and that’s because it is. This type of debate/banter has been going to the best of my knowledge since my father started playing at Pock in the mid 70’s (and no doubt for years before) and will continue for years to come. To echo Nashy’s comments it is what makes us PRUFC and it is my belief that knowledge of the issues involved and having an opinion will make you a better clubman and us a better club. Without loosing sight of respect and courtesy.
Let’s face it, if we weren’t all competitive we would all be playing football and if we didn’t have an opinion we would all be playing League:)
It has been a genuine pleasure to be involved with the ‘senior’ juniors for so long and during my time with them have seen some amazing rugby, met some real characters, learnt a great deal and, above all, had fun. Looking forward to seeing the 'junior' seniors next season all playing for Pocklington Rugby Union Football Club. Cheers.
p.s. is this the longest thread ever posted? Never done it before. Might do it a bit more now I’m retired. What do you reckon Nashy, should we spend our Sunday mornings posting literary poop to the guestbook?

Best Lions 1971, mostly Welsh see but odd sprinkling of other minor countries. You young uns look it up to help your education. Gareth and Barry best half backs ever, then there was Gerald Davies, JPR Williams, John Bevan, Mervyn Davies, Derek Quinnell and John Taylor. And for good measure John Dawes was captain. What quality see, Barry John could ghost through a gap that hadn't opened because the opposition were not quick enough to leave it. Gerald would have won Come Dancing just by swivelling his hips and JPR could run over buses.

Can’t really remember any further back than SA 97, so my team would be no good with such a limited knowledge.
However most memorable moment ever (or somewhere up there) has to be Scott Gibbs sitting Ollie Le Roux(or I think it was him?) down coming a scissors from Townsend. It went along way to lifting the team and winning the test series.
At the time, the game had just gone pro and SA before the tests were considered to be bigger, better and more professional, but we all know what happened.

So your basically saying your team mates ie: Nodder, Aikers, Durks, Pickard, stringer etc..... only play senior rugby because we, the senior players have only made this select few welcome? There are plenty of colts involved in 1st team rugby, more than ever before in recent memory, so stop complaining and be grateful that you're at a club where you get a chance at 1st team rugby. If you were at many others you would be languishing in lower teams for years.

I think the fact of why the colts are not playin so much 'senior rugby' is because they know some senior look down at them. There are the few that do play but thats only because one or more of the senior have took them under there wing and looked after them and made them feel welcome. but thats all i think from being a colt myself

Can people please consider what they're writing before they blurt out half-baked arguments on this board. I've just attempted to read the past 10 posts and not one of them makes any sense!!! It seems that people are bemoaning all at the same time that a) the colts don't train enough b) the colts aren't given their chance c) the colts play too much rugby d) the colts are playboys etc etc.
Why can't we just concede that there are some promising colts, who have yet to really assert themselves in senior rugby, and let them get on with developing?
I cannot see why we can't all just get along!!!

Firstly if it wasn't for Dave Nash, ably assisted by Pat Holborough, there wouldn't be a Colts side this year. So well done to them!!
Also well done to the Colts for such a successful season, winning Skipton 7's while battling through despite the snow AND winning the league.
To settle whats been said Congratulations to the Colts for everything they have worked for and the under 13's, who most have worked extremely hard this seasons, both players and management.
We should encourage are talent and not snipe at those who we don't think are working as hard as ourselves.
Work and injuries will always get in the way and ARENT just an excuse but a valid reason.

There seems to be a lot of finger pointing and meaningless chat.
Let’s just worry about training hard and having a laugh with our mates. If we do this it creates an atmosphere that people want to be part of and the issues raised become irrelevant. It’s a cycle and if everyone does there bit and stops worrying about others we won’t go far wrong.
All this chat about who is and who isn’t let just knock it on the head.
Any issues I’m sure TC and the coaches have it all in hand.

Dear 'For Clarity' (7 May 2008)
if, as i suspect, you wrote the post entitled 'senior rugby', how can you possibly say that you were aiming your comments at everyone and not just the colts?
you start with "If these Colts are the future of the clubthen show it." and "I don't see any other Colts as consistent trainers. Where is the talent we were told about?". pretty directed comments.
Then, "Perhaps some of these boys should commit to 2nd team rugby consistantly rather than blaming work, nights out, tired, injuries etc for absence on Saturday only to play junior rugby on Sunday." this comment in particular could be aimed at no-one other than the colts!
this forum is very useful for getting your views out, especially should you wish to remain anonymous, but for god's sake don't take the p*ss with all this back-pedaling! it just shows you don't have all, if any, of the facts to change your story so quickly when challenged.
if you didn't write the post entitled 'senior rugby', i apologise wholeheartedly but, instead, ask which post you are referring to?
if you did write it, you'd make a good politician.
Finally, i think the post by 'willow' on 6 may sums a lot of this up.

For Clarity (7 May 2008)
The comment made about lack of comitment was not soley aimed at the Colts - far from it as I have seen more Colts play more regularly for the 1st XV than the so called 1st XV players.
I commend those Colts players for the dedication ( sometimes playing twice over a weekend ) and think they have been let down by the so called 1st XV / 2nd XV players not turning up for training, going to the races etc. and generally being unavailable on match days with feable excuses.

in terms of team of the year, anyone who made the effort to get to the annual dinner will know why the team that got, got it. there is no doubt that the colts were not in with a shout and they got an honourable mention as did other teams. i cannot echo Senior Nash's comments enough on the colts commitment to playing for our club. many of them have played hard on a sat and, if a league win is anything to go by, played just as hard on a sunday. as a CLUB, commitment to training needs to be on the up - you can't point the finger at any individual or team, if you're not training, you know who you are.

Senior Rugby (6 May 2008)
The Colts have had a fantastic season and full credit goes to Dave Nash for keeping these lads together. With regards to them being the best team in the club, I dont think any of the senior sides can lay claim to that. As for team of the year, the result at the dinner was spot on!!!
If these Colts are the future of the clubthen show it. We have been hearing for years about this talent that is coming up through the ranks. Dukin, Pickard, Aikman, Shepherd and Holborough showed what can happen if you work hard. I don't see any other Colts as consistent trainers. Where is the talent we were told about? Apart from those boys who played first team rugby, who else do you think will really get a game next year even if they do train?
Stringer is improving and Britland will play games if he stays injury free, but who else? Lots of talent, no commitment maybe?
Perhaps some of these boys should commit to 2nd team rugby consistantly rather than blaming work, nights out, tired, injuries etc for absence on Saturday only to play junior rugby on Sunday.
I doubt the hierarchy will pick direct from a Colts team into the 1st XV. They have to ear a place.
Congratulations on the league win, any trophy is a fantastic achievement but please put the future into perspective. The furture is Birch, Mitchell, Holborough, Davies, Bennett etc

The "Seniors" ( this includes the Colts) do not have the commitment other senior sides have which is why we languish mid table for the last couple of years.

Just in case the speaker tonight is looking for some last minute material (apart from Birchy)...
An aide to President Bush walked into the Oval Office and found the President with his head in his hands, sobbing, and shaking his head in an 'oh my God NO' kind of fashion.
So the aide said 'whats wrong Mr President?'
And Bush looked up with tears in his eyes and blubbed 'I heard on the news that 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq today'.
The aide took a moment and then said 'yes I heard that too, but you seem very upset'
Bush wiped his eyes and replied 'So...... just exactly how many is a brazilian?'

The Truth (30 April 2008)
I can confirm that the rumours regarding Ali Lauititi, are not 100%. Pocklingtons Director of Rugby and Head Coach have been in discussions with Leeds Rugby after a chance introduction at a dinner with the assistance of Hull Ionians Head Coach Mick Watson.
Pocklington have approached Leeds Rugby to enable players from both codes to gain valuable match time throughout their seasons after injury, in light of the changes in loan rules implemented by the RFU last year allowing sides in national 1 and above to loan players out and have dual registrations. The Rhino's are particularly interested in taking up this opportunity given their season finishing in October. The proposal is currently with Leeds Rugby chairman Gary Hetherington whilst Leeds Carnegie representatives were at Pock last night to discuss further.
It is envisaged that the Union side would be looking to loan u21's players and 1st team players who cant get regular games. The link with the Rhino's would be a first for the Yorkshire leagues and Lauititi has been used as an example of someone who has recently suffered injuries and needed game time. Pocklington will look to benefit from guest coaching from both codes as well as the use of video analysis tools used by organisation.
An announcement is expected soon, perhaps by Friday evening at the dinner if negotiations tommorow evening prove succesful. Training has been cancelled tomorrow to enable the necessary parties to travel to Headingley.

Voting Against (28 April 2008)
I would like to echo previous comments. Rugby should be a game for all. The end of the scrum would rule a lot of players out of playing the game and change its nature totally. They have a game like that; it's called Rugby League which has it's merits but it's not our game. There is a choice: League or Union. Why change?

Gooligan (28 April 2008)
For once I agree with you about the new laws. Basically in this country the game is played for the love of it and caters for all players regardless of size and physique. These laws will create teams of 6' 2" super athletes and the rest of us normal guys will be left to take up fishing (oops sorry, this is serious). Just get there and vote against these changes

ELV's are not cool (28 April 2008)
well said - the welsh have already said they think the rules to be tosh outright so for once they are supporting the english but the rfu are conducting a survey AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE GAME. that is from the premiership right through to grass roots development. they are doing this through said questionairre (excuse the spelling if it's wrong) so it is important that people get onto the site and register their views. do it now - it's not as if any of you are working!!

Save our Game (28 April 2008)
OK boy’s and girl’s time to help same our game from the Australians who would like to turn it into what can only be described as glorified version of netball by introducing the new Experimental Law Variations ( ELV’s).
We all need to go onto www.rfusurvey.co.uk and voice our objections at these ridiculous changes.

This week's match report (23 April 2008)
The world of rugby, communication and journalism has developed somewhat since I wrote my first press reports about PRUFC circa 1976. I have endeavoured to keep abreast of the technological revolution of the 21st century, but have to admit I am still inadequate when it comes to posting reports directly onto the website homepage and/or reports section.
Therefore this has to be done via an intermediary. The Dinnington report was duly sent by pigeon mid-morning on Wednesday, and I'm sure its appearance is imminent.
However, I'm not sure why there is such impatience for this week's report against Dinnington - Dan Wilson didn't score, we managed to kick one penalty out of one attempt (the only time Fat Taff let Benno have the ball), never really threatened their line, and the highlights of the day were probably:
The pre-match buffet, Yoshi and Henry getting injured, the only ball getting stuck in a tree (just like the last time we went to Dinno), and Geoff the landlord getting on the bus at HOSM to say "I love you guys".
Cheers, Gilly.

Last point before a welcome change of topic... (23 April 2008)
You are right the women mentioned below don’t do those things but they help provide a structure to the club that means it is possible for the senior men to play and get gassed.
For the last two seasons now you have had women at the club who are players, who do pay their subs, who attend training, play games, arrange events that generate income for the club, dedicate hours of their time and personal money to develop their team, who support the senior teams on the side lines and at the senior men’s fundraising events. I thought PRUFC was a place that welcomed people who had a shared interest in rugby? I still believe it is.

Banter? (23 April 2008)
Its a shame when the best bit of banter on the guestbook all season comes a) after the last match and b) is about women being at the rugby club. BORING!!!

reply to women at Pock (23 April 2008)
Agree with all above comments. But......the women you refer to dont pay annual subs, train twice a week and travel all over Yorkshire every Saturday putting their bodies on the line. The dinnerhas always been the awards for the Senior Mens teams. Perhaps you may stand a chance of winning the Most Improved Perfume Award or the Least Tantrums in a season award. I think the comic is going to have a field day.

Women at PRUFC (23 April 2008)
Women have always been a part of the club whether it’s been acknowledged or not. Even always a part of the Awards dinner.
It’s probably a woman who serves you your drinks.
It’s a woman who has prepared and served your food.
If you have kids, it’s a woman staying in to look after them so that you can go out.
Some of you are lucky enough to have a woman pick you up and take you home at the end of the night. She might even come in for a bit and have a drink with you, laugh and blush a little at shit a penny.
Some of you might even send a bit of a cheeky drunken text because you all of a sudden feel amorous, fuelled by beer and testosterone, and it’ll more than likely be a woman who rejects your sorry arse next time.

Just been looking at the league tables and there is some funny things happening from N1 down. Most of the teams going out are either NW teams or NE. and Redcar want to go into N&D.
Cannot work out the possibilities but who knows who it will affect in Yorkshire leagues and could mean that relegation will not happen for some teams!!!!
Some of you will remember when Pock won NE3 and did not get promoted under reorganisation.
Bet the administrators did not see this happening either.

I'm sorry but i disagree entirely about pock not having a good pack, Front rows JP, Birchy, Morts & Aikman all quality players. It must be killing the one eyed monsters from the marsh land that they've been relegated to Yorkshire 3. Even your nearest rivals Selby are now two divisions superior to you!! Local bragging rights gone!
Then there's the top trips to Hullensians to look forward too as well!!

Genius (8 April 2008)
A distinguished young woman on a flight from Switzerland asked the Priest beside her, 'Father, may I ask a favor?'
'Of course. What may I do for you?'
'Well, I bought an expensive woman's electronic hair dryer for my mother's birthday that is unopened and well over the Customs limits, and I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through Customs for me? Under your robes perhaps?'
'I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you: I will not lie.'
'With your honest face, Father, no one will question you.'
When they got to Customs, she let the priest go ahead of her. The official asked, 'Father, do you have anything to declare?'
'From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare.'
The official thought this answer strange, so asked, 'And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?'
'I have a marvelous instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is, to date, unused.'Roaring with laughter, the official said, 'Go ahead Father... Next!'

Codhead Mail (31 March 2008)
Hull Daily mail Report.
UNDER-STRENGTH Pocklington almost pulled off a shock win before going down to undefeated Yorkshire Two champions Old Brodleians 8-5.
Pocklington had the slope advantage to start, but heavy rain and strong winds reduced handling ability to a minimum.
The slope advantage diminished with a number of refereeing decisions going against the travelling East Yorkshire men which forced them onto the back foot.
This led to a converted penalty for the home side and resulted in a 10-minute rest for centre Guy Wilson.
Strong running from the Pock back row enabled them to gain a foothold in the game, producing the first try.
A clever box kick from Ben Rees left old Brods defence stretched enabling man-of-the-match Matt Davies to win a foot race with the home side winger to slide over the line.
Even with the conversion being missed Pock were in the lead with only minutes of the first half left.
But Pock switched off and were harshly penalised at the ruck allowing Brods to kick to the corner, five metres out.
Precision and control at the line out enabled the home side to cross the white wash from a 13-man driving maul.
Although Pock had a number of opportunities to secure the win in the second half stout and resolute defence showed why Old Brods have won the league and are undefeated.

Re-Training (31 March 2008)
I think we should devote this week's training to re-training everyones positioning so that Morts and Biggo can step into the centres if required. Yoshi for Full Back, Benno as hooker. The team would be unbeatable then.

I do really prefer the "Blues" to Soul so are we going to get some extra entertainment between games. Perhaps Mickey Beard could learn to strum something new or even be a one man band and walk up and down the pitch at half time. That would be worth paying for!!!
By the way what is WISE UP drinking after the matches, its certainly causing him problems in creating sentences viz- "Now, lets get behind the all the payers and coaches".
Is this two sentences combined, was his chain of thoughts interupted, does he shout this at the start of a match or has whatever he is on started to not have the right effects any longer?

Stop all your bitch slapping antics, it's pathetic. Rugby at our level is about having fun and enjoying your Saturday afternoon and night.
There's no pay, no performance related bonuses and no international caps to be had. So long as there are15 players who are ready and prepared to step across the whitewash at 3.00pm and a few extras putting money behind the bar then you have the ingredients for a good, solid, community club.
Money comes and money goes, but as long as there is a soul to the club it'll perform to its abilities.
Perhaps if you all channelled as much energy into supporting the club instead of bitching about it, you might find the team at the level where you want it.
Now, lets get behind the all the payers and coaches for the remainder of the year and start this Friday by getting down and spending our cash to give PRUFC a superb 50th Pock 7s.

Wooden Spoon - when the boyo from the valleys left, Pock were in a better state than at present, certainly on the playing side. And they could still have a hell of a time after the match. Suppose its what you want really. Do you strive for excellence or settle for mediocrity? Its a choice that the club and its members make but of course the ability of the members on the pitch probably decides that anyway.
Watchingwasbetter@Pock

Required: 1 spine, 1 brain and a bit of personality for Mr Ashton (11 March 2008)
If anyone doesn't already know, the right honorable B Ashton has made one change for the game vs Ireland. He has dropped JW to the bench and is starting D Cipriani.
that in itself doesn't seem to bad - Jonny did struggle on sat and the 6 nations have been ballsed up by England now so give Cippers a chance to see what he can do with a start.
however, Balshaw is still in. there are several other players that should be swapped (vickery for stevens etc) but i'm really struggling to see how BA can keep his job after this appalling pandering to an inept fool in iain balshaw. not only has this clown kept his place, but Ashton has completely folded to the pressure falling on JW following the Scot game. i wonder now who actually makes the decisions in the england camp? it would appear it is the English Press.
Come on Brian, grow a pair and bring a bit of pride back to english rugby!

partial agreement... (11 March 2008)
i do agree with you partially, CdeH, Mr moore does have the guts to say what he thinks. my issue is that he seems to spend too much of his time saying and not enough of it thinking.
and, seeing as though Mr Moore is the subject, does anyone else think that his commentary on England's clash with either Italy or Wales (i forget which one) where he shouts several times at things occurring on the pitch was completely unproffessional??
are commentators not meant to be impartial?

performance (10 March 2008)
I agree that Ashtons 'golden boy' has to go, he's had his chance and has squandered it! And yes leslie has up until saturday proved he is worth a run out but i feel we need someone with a little more inventiveness. While the 'volcano' is a unit and has deft handling he lacks the required inspiration. I agree with you on the Brian Moore call i don't think i've heard a less professional commentary, and JW should stay as 10.

Pock@pock
Give Les a chance (10 March 2008)
I think the comments on Big Les are a little unfair. yes, he did drop a fair amount of ball but the conditions were not good and several of the passes were 'interesting'. if you look at the volcano in previous matches, both for england and gloucester, he carries well (obviously!!), normally has no problem collecting a pass or kick and has a surprisingly good eye for an offload bearing in mind he is a league convert. do not judge him on one game. Balshaw on the other hand has had 4 opportunities and has failed to make anything of them. i do fully agree with bringing lewsey in - an old hand at fullback might help england out. but you then have to bear in mind that Danny C is to return - he should fill 15 in my mind, leaving jonny to stay at 10. one thing i think all rugby enthusiasts should agree on, whoever they follow, is that Brian Moore is a gobsh*te who doesn't seem to think before speaking, so we can safely ignore his calls to 'oust' JW.
one final thing - they must use the Volcano more - he needs to spend sat afternoon hitting inside and outside 12 and running over whoever happens to be foolish enough to stand in his path.
ranting@pock
performance (10 March 2008)
it goes without saying that he would look average in such i dismal performance but i think there is a new contender for most dropped balls!! The 'volcano' had a shocker, if anything he should be used as an impact player and replaced by simpson daniel or lewsey!
Working@uni
Balshaw...good?? (10 March 2008)
he only didn't look out of place cos the other 14 players (and i use the term 'players' very loosely) had fallen to his dismally low standards. maybe it was an anti bullying tactic by ashton? i reckon Balshaw was getting so much grief for being rubbish that the only way good ol' Bri could protect his 'Golden Boy' was to instruct everyone else to be as poor at the game of rugby union as Iain, therefore sharing the good British public's wrath between all players. and i do mean British public, not just English, as any Brit seeing that game should be angry even if it was just purely the fact that thhe game of rugby in general was dire!!

Kingston Upon Hull Earthquake Appeal
An Earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Kingston upon Hull this Wednesday morning. The epicentre was Bransholme. Casualties were seen wandering aimlessly saying “o me belongeens ar brock†“worapend†and “ar conner bayleeve eetâ€.
The earthquake decimated the area causing in excess of £17.55 worth of damage. Several priceless collections of mementos from Ibiza, Corfu, Rhyll and Blackpool were damaged beyond repair. Preserved areas of historic importance were destroyed and cars burned out. Many locals were woken before their Giro’s arrived. One resident, Kylie Sharon Smith, a 15 year old mother of four said “It was such a f**ckin shock, little Chardonnay-Destiny came running into my bedroom crying; my hands were shaking that much I could hardly skin-up.â€
The British Red Cross has so far managed to send 4000 crates of Sunny Delight to the area to help with the crisis. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found numerous “Elizabeth Duke†sovereign rings, benefit books and Poundstretcher ornaments.
How can you help?
This appeal hopes to raise money for food and clothing parcels for those unfortunate enough to be caught up in the disaster. Clothing is most sought after. Urgently needed are Lacoste tracksuits, white socks, Burberry caps, Beanie hats and Rockports. Food parcels are also needed. They include McCain oven chips, Aldi Beans, Monster Munch and Iceland pizza. Alcohol is also in short supply, especially White Lightening Cider and Special Brew. Cash donations are also needed. 22p buys a signing-on’ biro, £2.50 buys a Jumbo sausage dinner, £20.00 buys a fake MOT and £16.00 buys 200 Regal from the back of Tomo’s lorry.
