Junior Seven's Rugby Festival

Sunday 12th April 2009

1. Festival Format

The festival is governed by the rules as laid out in the Seven-A-Side Variations of the IRB Laws of the Game for Rugby Union:-

  1. The format will be two pools of four teams per age group, with a semi-final and final for the top teams thereafter.
(The continuum limits any one-day festival to a MAXIMUM of 5 games per team at any of the age groups, which limits the number of rounds that we can have.)
  2. All games will be played to the IRB Laws of the Game.
  3. Games will be 5 minutes each way with a 2 minute interval.
  4. Squad sizes shall consist of 10 players.
  5. Referees must be neutral in the group stages and appointed in the final stages.
  6. In the event of a clash of colours one team should change or bibs can be worn.
  7. Individual teams must register by 10.00am at the Control Centre, with a copy of their respective team sheets, failure to do so will result in that team being able to play but unable to win the days events.
  8. The organisers have allocated pitches and times for each game.
  9. Failure to be on time will mean forfeiting the game.
  10. Games will be played on a league basis with 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw.
  11. The U13 and U14 age groups will play on half pitches and U15 age group on full pitch.
  12. Conversions will be drop goals, in front of the posts for U13 and U14 age groups and from the point of score for the U15 age group.
  13. Scoring team will kick-off by drop goal to the opposing team.
  14. In the event of teams being level at the end of the pool stages and latter rounds the winner will be decided as follows:
    1. Highest points scored
    2. Greatest point’s difference
    3. Matches won
    4. Fewest points conceded
    5. Share Trophy.
THE DECISION OF THE COMMITTEE ON ANY MATTER IS FINAL.

1.2 - Squads
Age qualification will be as in the Continuum. Any team fielding over age players will be disqualified and reported to the RFU. Referees may require proof of age. “Guest” players are not permitted.

Teams will play 7 a side, but may register a squad of up to 10 players.

Players need to arrive already in team colours as changing facilities are limited. Warm clothing and waterproofs should be brought as the weather is changeable.

1.3 - Registration

Please find enclosed a registration form for distribution to each squad. The registration forms must be returned immediately to ensure a place in the event.

Registration on the day will be at 09:30am – 10:00am prompt at the Central Control, which will be located either in the clubhouse lounge or outside on the patio, weather permitting.

1.4 - Referees

The matches will be played in 2 pools per age group so each team may be playing in one group while refereeing in another group at the same time. Would each squad please ensure that they provide sufficient referees to cover their commitment at each age group? If you foresee that this will not be possible, or you have more referees available please let me know ASAP.

Referees will be briefed in the Control Centre at 10:00am. Referees will be given a score slip for each of their games that must be completed immediately following each game and retuned promptly to the score table.

1.5 - Match Timings

Registration will be at 9:30am with kick off at 10:30am. All age groups have the same schedule, which will be strictly adhered to. Teams should be ready 5 min’s before kick-off. Any team not ready to take the field, for any match, on time is liable to forfeit the match.

In the event of any re-scheduling it will be the responsibility of team coaches to keep an eye on the timings.

Scores and timings will be displayed at the score table.

1.6 - Trophies

All being well, we will present the trophies and medals at 3:30pm Trophies will be presented to the winning team in each age group. We plan to arrange for a celebrity/senior player to present the trophies.
