RFU Level 1 Coaching Award

The Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Rugby Union is designed to provide new coaches with the skills and knowledge to deliver rugby and to support other coaches within a coaching team. The course covers a wide range of topics including generic coaching skills, rugby specific coaching skills, sports science, the laws of the game and child protection.

Applicants MUST have completed the online element of the new IRB Rugby Ready Course and send in a print off of their certificate with their application form to be eligible for the level One.

  1. Cost per person: - £100 including VAT cheques payable to “RFD Ltd” & must accompany application form
  2. Its is recommended that applicants have previous experience of coaching or playing or have attended a TAG or Rugby Ready Course
  3. Applications will only be accepted if they are accompanied with a copy of the candidates Rugby Ready Certificate; this can be obtained from going to the following link Rugby Ready and completing the online questionnaire.
  4. Courses will be closed at a maximum of 32 candidates.
  5. Cancellation and transfer fees can be found on the course application forms.
A place on the course will only be confirmed on receipt of a fully completed application form with attached payment and providing space is available.

Continuous Professional Development

The courses below have been planned in up until Christmas as well as next summer. if any clubs or schools would like any of the courses below run after Christmas at their clubs please contact Alex Bowden.

Minimum numbers of 12 would be needed to arrange an individual course.

RFU Front Row Clinic A 3 hour course designed for teachers, coaches and players who wish to develop a greater understanding of the skills involved in coaching and playing in a 3, 5 and 8 man scrum. Coaching Backs to Attack A 3 hour course designed for teachers, coaches and players who wish to develop a greater understanding of how to coach attacking back play and the skills required by the players. Course covers both individual and unit skills required to challenge the defence and practical examples of practices to develop these skills will be provided. Coaching Defence A 2 hour course designed for teachers, coaches and players who wish to develop a greater understanding of the principles of defence in the modern game. Course covers both individual and unit skills required in defence and practical examples of practices to develop these skills will be provided. ELRA - Entry Level Referee Accreditation.

This is an ideal opportunity to ensure our club has referees for next season and support them with their training. As we are working through Seal of Approval this is an important part of the process.
